Each year, the Women’s Business Council Southwest recognizes a woman owned business that “exemplifies outstanding performance in service, delivery or added value to their clients; consistently provides high quality products and services and uses innovative approaches to overcome obstacles in servicing their clients and growing their business.” For 2014, the Council has awarded the WBE of the Year in the “Under $3M” category to Donna Bender of the Donna Bender Company, a branded marketing and promotional strategy consulting firm.Womens Business Southwest awards

Donna moved to Dallas nine years ago and quickly started networking to build her business. After several years of speaking and presenting herself to networking groups supportive of her business philosophy, “give value first,” three women business owners in a single week recommended that she join the Women’s Business Council. Finding that the organization’s purpose was to empower, encourage, and help women business owners grow their businesses, Donna felt right at home. She is quoted as saying, “I enjoy helping people build their businesses. It gives me great pleasure when I can empower others to succeed.”

Once a member of the Council, Donna jumped in with both feet, joining committees, attending events, speaking in seminars, partnering with other WBE’s and working with Sustaining Members, making contacts and gaining respect – and her active involvement has been rewarded by the growth of her business each year of her membership. In 2011, she was one of four WBEs honored with the Council’s Lillie Knox Investing for Growth Award and she is now the 2014 WBE of the Year (<$3M). Upon receiving the award, Donna said, “I was extremely honored and humbled by this award. The way I see it, I was awarded for doing something I love to do. Give Value First, Get Involved, Grow your Business.“
